Angela Boxwell – Founder of Business Accounting Basics

I began my career in accounting almost 30 years ago, initially working as a purchase ledger clerk. After lots of hard work and studying I managed an accounting department for a one million pound turnover company where I reported to group financial controller.

While working, I studied in the evenings and passed qualifications in both A-level accounting and Association of Accounting Technicians AAT. It was hard work, but well worth it for the results.

When I left my accounting position to start a family in 2000, we also opened our own business in computer consultancy. My role was finance director and dealt with all the day-to-day tasks that come along with running any company. This business closed when my husband went back into full-time employment a few years later.

In 2004 I started a bookkeeping business in Reading with the goal of helping small business owners with their accounting needs. My website offered tips and advice on accounting basics, and I was able to help many businesses improve their financial situation. In 2008 I moved, and the website was re-launched as Business Accounting Basics.

All the information and templates on the site are free to use. Our free Excel bookkeeping templates are especially popular in helping small businesses, charities and personal users keep track of their finances. we’re still adding information regularly.

In 2012, I started my own bookkeeping business, Littlefoot Bookkeeping Services in Warwickshire. I provide services to small companies in Excel, Xero, Quickbooks, and Accounts Portal.

My services include VAT, accounts preparation to year-end, advice, and setting up accounting software. I work closely with a couple of local accountants and can, therefore, complete your accounts from start to finish. This includes submitting to Companies House. I am a member in practice with the AAT.
